The best of your leaders are those whom you love and they love you

“The best of your leaders are those whom you love and they love you; you pray for them and they pray for you. And the worst of your leaders are those whom you anger and they anger you; you curse them and they curse you.”
The Prophet (s;) | Sahih Muslim
Nowadays we’re too easily impressed with those who have Islamic knowledge, but are poor in character. When we look at Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) we see in him the benchmark of a true leader - that he was the best of us in manners and knowledge of the Deen. It was because of his character that the companions loved him, emulated him, and people were more open to the message of Islam. He earned the love and respect of the people, because he loved and respected the people.

Abud-Dardaa reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Shouldn’t I inform you of something more excellent in degree than fasting, prayer and charity?” They said, "Certainly.” He said, " To reconcile people. Indeed, spoiling relations between people is [the basis for] destruction.
